GM Logo, GM Mac, CONNECTION?

QMA Says:

I bet he resigned because of the logo

Actually when I heard the the Mac Developer resigned, this was the first thing that came to mind. I would too abandon a sinking ship. If I was a hard working developer that realized that all his hard work would end in an unprofesional result, I would too resign.

Is this a joke? Seriously the users don’t want this, and it makes gamemaker look so unprofessional, this is going to make the community decrease so bad all because of this stupid logo…

People do judge books by there covers you know.

What the bloody hell is this? This is crap.
This is going to be a disgrace to my desktop ,Having this icon on my desktop is going to be embarrassing. :S
But really, A smiley inside a gear? This is shit. Not because of the quality of the graphics, They are awesome, But because of the content.

This logo is just plain ridiculous.
Seriously, a SMILEY ? Two kinds of people use smileys on the internet : 10 year olds, and older people trying to sound trendy online.
Using one in the logo totally discredits GameMaker. It makes it look… just… out of place. “Hey cool game, how’d you make it ? …GameMaker ? That thing with the big yellow grin ? Oh.”
It’s not even a well-executed smiley. It looks like the Yahoo Messenger icon on crack. The way the eyes are revulsed makes it look simply obscene, and the unnecessarily huge mouth is grotesque. I also hate that radial gradient in the mouth.
The font looks neat, but… it feels more like what you’d see in a title banner for a blog than for a game development tool.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not attacking the maker of that logo, I’m sure he did his best with what he had. I’m criticizing Yoyogames choosing it.
It just doesn’t fit.
If you want a new logo, make it smart, make it pro, make it classy; make it artsy, even, but please don’t ruin the image of quality and seriousness that GameMaker managed to achieve over the years

When I saw this on the forums I thought it was a joke. This makes me want to club 5 year olds with a teddybear. If gm8 uses this as an icon I am going to change it to a pentagram to improve it, I seriously think this will be the beginning of 2012.

I also registered just to say this

This is supposed to visually represent the Game Maker software? I thought you were supposed to make GM look more professional and appealing and less of the joke it used to be regarded as back when all it was famous for was poor platformers featuring ripped Mario/Sonic sprites.

It’s vile and embarrasing. It’s amateurish and makes it look like Game Maker is purely for kids (not the smart kids either). It’s by far the worst logo I’ve ever seen for a quality piece of software. It’s just more fodder for those users of more ‘professional’ game development programs to have a go at us.

And why’s the K look so much like an R? Thought it said Game Marer at first.

It’s got to be some sorta joke or something and the real logo will be revealed later

OMG I think I will go to bed (soon) having nightmares of a logo with a hammer in it !! Em last time I saw a logo with a hammer it was the Soviet Union or…was it Game Maker… ?? Maybe I’m not up to date with the 1960’s ??

Is everyone really this immature. Most of you using Game Maker should be under 18, or 21, at least, otherwise you should be using C++ or something like that. Yeah, the logo isn’t the star logo of the universe but really. Game Maker is made for people who want to make games without typing any code. To all of you people who think it doesn’t look professional, it’s not really supposed to, Game Maker is a really good game making program but it’s not really proffesional. A real programmind system is professional. The ones that involve typing tens of thousands of lines of code. I’m just saying that everyone should be happy with the program itself, not complain about what it looks like.

Hi, I have registered to say, this logo is upsetting.

I have been a Game Maker user since 2001 — This is literally like a piece of my childhood is being destroyed. But it is not a simple matter of change. The logo seems unprofessional, and more-or-less a rip-off of the Yahoo Messenger logo. I do not understand how it is favored above other logos.

Please do not do an injustice to Game Maker by going through with this decision.

Wow, a lot of bile over this. Makes you feel bad for the guy who drew it. Way to make a winner feel like a loser, eh? :/

I just don’t get the bit about YYG losing sales over an icon. I used Lite for a good month or so before I committed to the purchase. At that point I could’ve given a damn about what the bloody icon looked like. Cripes, people
